I’m honored to share that I have been promoted from Associate Professor to the rank of Professor at Middle Tennessee State University, effective August 1, 2024.

This milestone is deeply meaningful to me, and I want to express my sincere appreciation to my colleagues, students, mentors, and collaborators who have supported and inspired me throughout my journey. I’m especially grateful to the MTSU School of Nursing and the university leadership for their confidence in my work and continued commitment to advancing nursing education, research, and community impact.

Deborah Lee, Chairholder, NHC Chair of Excellence in Nursing, Nursing faculty.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the National Health Care Corporation (NHC) Chair of Excellence in Nursing and founding the MTSU Positive Aging Consortium, both of which have allowed me to explore and advocate for issues I care deeply about—particularly the health and dignity of older adults. My research on the long-term care workforce, especially Certified Nursing Assistants, continues to be a source of purpose and connection. I’m also fortunate to be part of a federally funded collaboration with Vanderbilt University, NHC, and other partners, addressing critical challenges in recruiting and retaining the geriatric workforce.

In addition to my research and teaching, I’ve found great joy in mentoring the next generation of nurses—especially through our communication skills clinical rotation and the health and wellness coaching program we developed to help students build stress resilience through self-care. As one of the first National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coaches in the country, I’m proud to integrate those principles into nursing education and student support.

I’ve spent more than four decades in healthcare—across clinical, academic, public health, and leadership roles in both the U.S. and Canada—and this promotion feels like a moment to pause and reflect with gratitude on the many people and experiences that have shaped my path.

Thank you again to everyone who has walked alongside me. I’m looking forward to this next chapter with humility, purpose, and continued commitment to meaningful work.

Warmly,
Deborah Lee, PhD, RN, NBC-HWC
